Recently I've noticed that the power light on my laptop is flickering when it is in the sleep state. How can I fix this? Is there a larger issue? Video of the symptom here:

Hi @SnoWFLakE0s

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The flickering power LED on your Spectre x360 during sleep is not a sign of a larger hardware issue—it is typically linked to system power management settings. You can adjust sleep and LED behavior through software and firmware settings to stabilize it.

Understanding the Symptom

  • Power LED behavior: On many laptops, the LED pulses or flickers to indicate the system is in sleep mode. If the flicker is irregular or distracting, it can often be adjusted through settings.
  • No hardware fault: This is generally not a hardware failure but a configurable feature tied to sleep states (S3/S4) and BIOS/firmware controls.

Steps to Address the Flickering

Update BIOS and Drivers

  • Open the HP App on your device.
  • Run Diagnose & Fix to check for updates.
  • Ensure the BIOS and chipset drivers are up to date. This helps align LED behavior with the latest firmware.

Check Power Settings

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Select your active plan and click Change plan settings.
  • Choose Change advanced power settings.
  • Expand Sleep and verify that sleep timers are set correctly.
  • Adjust Sleep after and Hibernate after to ensure smooth transitions.

Modify Sleep LED Behavior in BIOS

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Look for Power Management or LED Indicators options.
  • If available, disable or adjust the LED sleep indicator setting.

Run System Diagnostics

  • Press Esc during startup and select System Diagnostics.
  • Run a quick test on power and battery to confirm there are no underlying issues.

Note:

  • The flickering LED is a normal sleep indicator, but if it feels irregular, updating BIOS and drivers, adjusting power settings, and checking BIOS options can help.
  • No larger issue is present—this is a configurable system behavior rather than a fault.
  • Following the steps above should stabilize or reduce the flickering effect.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
