bought hp spectre x360 in may. yesterday when I removed power cord, computer immediately shut down. Battery shows 96% charged ( but not charging). ran battery test with hp support assistant and battery shows fine. also ran test on operating system and all showed ok. Tried to reinstall last BIOS update from support site, but it says it is not compatible with my computer, so I cancelled update. I have tried restarting computer a number of times, and have removed power cord at least a dozen times last 2 days and each time it immediately shuts down. My normal process is, I start up my computer, remove the power cord and use it on battery until battery runs low and then I plug it back in. have not had issue till yesterday. Seems that I just did automatic updates this past week, so I thought that might be the issue. Appreciate any help!!

I'm afraid it is not possible to discharge the battery, when the AC Adapter is plugged-in.
I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer, they should be able to help.
Have a great day!

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I reviewed your post and I understand that the computer is shutting down when you remove the charger.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
What is the product number for your computer?
Meanwhile, I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps.
Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager.
Here is how you do it.
Step 1: Click the Windows “Start” button and right-click “Computer.”
Step 2: Click “Manage,” then “Device Manager.”
Step 3: Click the “Batteries” section. A list of devices will appear.
Step 4: Right-click the “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery” device and click “Uninstall.”
Step 5: Click the “Action” menu item and “Scan for Hardware Changes” to reinstall the driver.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Sorry for the delay in checking for an answer! I deleted what you suggested, did not work, so I went back and deleted both items under "battery" and still does not work.
Computer will not start without power cord, and will immediately shut down if it is removed while running. Battery indicator shows "94 % available ( plugged in, not charging.) It previously was showing 96%

ran the diagnostics you sent link to. it said that battery was too fully charged to check and to run it on battery power to run battery down, and if it cannot be run on battery without power cord, that I should change the battery?? This computer is only 6 months old!

I am beyond excited! I contacted HP about my computer, the next day Friday evening, I had a pre-addressed box for my computer mailed to me, mailed it on Saturday, and just had the FedEx man drop it off on Wednesday, battery replaced and working like new! kind of disappointed that a battery went dead in 7 months, but very pleased with HP's repair service and promptness beyond belief!!
