When I start my computer (HP Stream), it goes to the mountain picture, but I never get an option to log in. When I click on that screen, it blurs and gives me internet, audio assistant, and power options. I have tried the shift with power-restart and tried to reset settings, but it never did more than turn off. Now when I try to do that, it just restarts. How do I get back to my log in screen and get my computer working again???

Hi @khall627,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I'm sorry you're dealing with this frustrating issue—it must be quite inconvenient not being able to access your computer. Let’s work through this together to help you get back to your login screen.

  • Did anything unusual happen before this issue began, such as updates, software installations, or a power interruption?
  •  Do you have any external devices (e.g., USB drives, printers) connected to the computer? Sometimes these can interfere with startup.
  • Have you noticed any error messages or unusual sounds during startup?

Let's try these steps.

Check for External Device Conflicts:
Disconnect all external devices except the power adapter, then restart your computer to see if it boots to the login screen.

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • Turn off the computer.
  • Turn it back on, and as soon as it starts, press the Esc key repeatedly (or F8 on some models).
  • Select Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Safe Mode.
If it starts in Safe Mode, this indicates a software or driver issue.

Run Automatic Repair:

  • Turn off the computer.
  • Hold the Shift key and click Restart on the power menu.
  • Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair and follow the instructions.

Perform a System Restore:
If Safe Mode works, try restoring your system to a point before the issue began:

  • Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > System Protection > System Restore.

Reset Windows (if nothing else works):

  • Boot into the advanced options menu as described above.
  • Select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
  • Choose whether to keep or remove your files and follow the prompts. (This will reinstall Windows.)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
