@arnelmars, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

A "Disc read error occurred" message typically points to a problem with the hard drive or boot configuration. Let's walk through some steps to diagnose and potentially resolve this issue.

Step 1: Perform a Hard Drive Diagnostic Test

HP provides built-in diagnostics to check for hardware issues:

  1. Turn off your notebook.
  2. Power it on and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly (once every second) until the Startup Menu appears.
  3. Press F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  4. Select Component Tests > Storage > Quick Test.
  5. Run the test and note any error codes or messages.

If the Quick Test passes but issues persist, run the Extensive Test.

Step 2: Reset BIOS Defaults

Sometimes BIOS settings can cause boot issues.

  1. Restart the PC and press Esc, then F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  2. Use arrow keys to navigate to Exit > Load Setup Defaults.
  3. Save and exit.

Step 3: Check Boot Order

Ensure the hard drive is the first boot device:

  1. In BIOS, go to the System Configuration > Boot Options.
  2. Make sure the internal hard drive is listed first.
  3. Save changes and exit.

Step 4: Attempt Startup Repair (if accessible)

If you have a Windows 10 installation USB:

  1. Boot from the USB.
  2. Select Repair your computer > Troubleshoot > Startup Repair.
