So its been since yesterday that I am facing this issue. As I open the start button its pops open the screen full of tiles and looks normal, but whenever I select any app or file or even select the option "All files" etc on the screen the start option just closes down and returns to the desktop page. I have even updated my Windows to the latest version with the hope that it will cure the issue but its still the same.
Moreover the Search option is also not working in the start menu and also while using it from File Explorer.

Solutions and suggestions are welcomed. Please Help

Hello @Anirban_07

Welcome!

Windows uses user accounts since Windows 2000 and even now to manage the users and the information. It is either your user account corrupted or more serious issue in Windows itself.

  • Let's first check your account - create a new one, login there and see if you will be able to use Start menu normally there.

Restart your computer and as soon you see the screen coming out, begin hitting the Esc key repeatedly.HP Start up menu should open. Then press F11 to open the Recovery menu. Here is a video with instructions >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSN0qzXayUY

Go to Troubleshoot -> Advanced options -> Command Prompt

Type the following command and press Enter:

net user TESTACC Abcd1234 /add

Type the following command to add the newly created account to the Administrators group and press Enter:

net localgroup administrators TESTACC /add

Eventually, type the following command and press Enter:

exit

After restart, try to login to the TESTACC account with password Abcd1234

Check the Windows start menu and how it works.

Let me know the results. I will post new instructions eventually.

Different user accounts can be accessed through the sign-in screen on the bottom left corner after you clicked on the lock screen. Simply choose which user you would like to be and enter the appropriate password.

My Setup:
HP Notebook: HP 14-dk0028wm
Current Operating System: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
