Hi @jessejo0

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details. I understand the system is not starting normally, and you've observed that the power button turns on, the Caps Lock flashes once, and after removing the RAM modules, the system displays a reboot screen followed by a recovery screen.

To help us understand whether this is primarily a memory-related issue or a startup corruption issue, could you please confirm a few details?

  1. What is the full HP product model or product number?
  2. Are you currently able to reach the Windows Recovery Environment consistently, or does the system sometimes stop before reaching that screen?
  3. How many RAM modules are installed in the computer?
  4. Have you tried installing only one RAM module at a time and testing each slot individually?
  5. Did the issue begin after any recent hardware change, BIOS update, power event, or system update?
  6. If a recovery screen appears, could you share the exact message displayed on that screen or a photo of it?

Based on what you've described so far:

  • A single Caps Lock flash generally indicates that the system is completing at least part of the startup process.
  • The fact that a recovery screen appears after the memory is removed suggests the motherboard is still responding and detecting hardware changes.
  • This can point toward a memory seating issue, an individual memory module concern, or Windows startup files requiring recovery.

Once you share the HP model and the recovery screen message, we can provide the most appropriate troubleshooting steps and determine the next action for the startup issue.

We're looking forward to helping you get back up and running!

Regards,

Hawks_Eye
