In the start up menu I only get 5 options f1,2,9,10,11. I pressed f11 for the recovery screen. But it says my laptop needs to be repaired, and I can’t access the repair page. I also can access the search bar, terminal, cmdpt, and my home page.

Hi @Helpmeplease40,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
- I would need a few details to help you further.
Have you recently installed any updates, or new software, or made any changes to your system before this issue started? - When you press F11 and see that the laptop needs to be repaired, are there any specific error codes or messages displayed on the screen?
- Do you have a Windows recovery USB or a system recovery disc available?
- Are you able to access the BIOS by pressing F10? If so, are the hard drive and other hardware components recognized correctly in the BIOS?
- Have you experienced any issues with startup, crashes, or blue screens before this current problem?
- Do you have important data on the laptop that needs to be backed up before performing any recovery actions?
Here are the troubleshooting steps to address the startup issue with your HP 15-f2000 Laptop PC series:
Step 1: Accessing BIOS to Check the Boot Order
Enter BIOS:
- Restart the laptop and press F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS setup.
Check Boot Order:
- Ensure that the boot order prioritizes the internal hard drive or SSD. If it’s not listed, this might indicate a hardware issue with the drive.
Check Hard Drive Status:
- In the BIOS, navigate to Storage or Diagnostics to check if the hard drive is detected and passes any available self-tests.
Step 2: Attempting System Recovery
Using F11 for Recovery:
- Press F11 to enter the recovery environment. If the system indicates it needs to be repaired but you can't access the repair tools, it suggests a possible corruption in the recovery partition.
Using a Recovery USB or Disc:
- If you have a Windows recovery USB or a system recovery disc:
- Insert the recovery media and restart the laptop.
- Press F9 to access the boot menu and select the USB or disc as the boot device.
- Choose the option to Repair Your Computer and follow the prompts to attempt a system repair or recovery.
Accessing Advanced Options:
- If you can access the recovery environment via the recovery media, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options to use options like Startup Repair, System Restore, or Command Prompt.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @Helpmeplease40,
Please find the remaining steps below.
Step 3: Using Command Prompt for Repairs
- Access Command Prompt:
If you can access the Command Prompt via recovery options, you can attempt repairs with these commands:
Step 4: Performing a System Reset or Fresh Install
System Reset:
- If the above steps fail, use the recovery media to perform a system reset that keeps your files or a fresh install of Windows:
- Choose Troubleshoot > Reset This PC > Keep My Files or Remove Everything depending on your needs.
Fresh Install:
- If a reset fails, you may need to perform a clean installation of Windows using the recovery media.
Step 5: Checking for Hardware Issues
- Run Hardware Diagnostics:
- If available, run HP’s built-in hardware diagnostics by pressing F2 at startup to check for any underlying hardware issues with the hard drive, memory, or other components.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, there may be a deeper hardware issue, such as a failing hard drive, which would need to be replaced.
Keep me posted for further assistance
