Hi @KlausT2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Dealing with a startup or blue screen error tied to CHDRt64isst.sys can be both alarming and frustrating, especially when it signals audio driver corruption or incompatibility. Below is a gentle, step-by-step guide to help you resolve it on your HP machine running Windows 10/11:

1. Identify the Culprit: Conexant Audio Driver

The CHDRt64isst.sys file is associated with the Conexant ISST audio driver, commonly integrated in HP notebooks. Most often, these start-up errors arise from outdated or corrupted audio drivers.

2. Remove and Reinstall the Driver

  1. Open Device Manager:
    Press Win + XDevice Manager.
  2. Navigate to Sound, video and game controllers.
  3. Locate Conexant ISST Audio (or similar), right-click → Uninstall device
    • Check "Delete the driver software for this device" if available.
  4. Reboot your PC; this ensures the old driver is fully removed.
  5. After a restart, Windows may automatically install a generic audio driver.
  6. If no sound or there's an error:
    • Return to Device Manager
    • Right‑click → Update driverBrowse my computer, and point to the latest driver that matches your HP model on the Official HP® Support HP website.

👉 HP drivers are typically found on HP Support → enter your laptop's model (e.g., EliteBook, Pavilion), find "Audio".

3. Prevent Windows from Reinstalling Incompatible Drivers

To avoid Windows automatically overwriting your driver:

  1. Open Control PanelSystem and SecuritySystem.
  2. Click Advanced system settingsHardware tab.
  3. Click Device Installation Settings → select No (your device might not work as expected) → Save changes.

4. Disable Audio Enhancements

Sometimes, enhancement features trigger driver instability:

  1. Press Win + ISystemSound.
  2. Under All sound devices, select your audio output, then Audio enhancements.
  3. Disable all enhancements, apply settings, then restart.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
