@Imeices, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP Envy laptop is stuck in a "Preparing Automatic Repair" loop and displaying the "stopcode driver_pnp_watchdog" error, here are several steps you can take to try and resolve the issue:

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • Restart your computer and, during the boot process, press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
  • From the Startup Menu, press F11 to enter Recovery Manager.
  • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings and select Restart.
  • Once your computer restarts, press 4 or F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode.

Update or Roll Back Drivers:

  • In Safe Mode, open Device Manager by pressing Windows + X and selecting it from the list.
  • Look for any drivers that may need updating, particularly any yellow warning signs.
  • Right-click on the device with the issue, choose Update driver, and follow the prompts. If recent updates have caused the problem, try rolling back the driver under the device's properties.

System Restore:

  • Enter the Recovery Environment by restarting the computer and pressing F11.
  • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore.
  • Choose a restore point dated before the issue began and follow the prompts to revert the system to that point.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Still in Safe Mode, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Install any pending updates to fix security vulnerabilities and other problems.

Run a System File Check:

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type sfc /scannow followed by Enter.
  • This will scan for and attempt to fix any corrupted system files.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • If you haven’t done this as per HP's instructions, disconnect all external devices, remove the battery (if removable), and unplug any external power.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and power, and try to start your laptop again.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
