Title:

Storage Drive Not Detected / Error 3F0 & Abnormal status reported by Rapid Storage Technology UEFI driver - HP 15s-fq2xxx

System Details:

 * Laptop Model: HP Laptop 15s-fq2xxx (15s-FQ2071TU)

 * Processor: 11th Gen Intel Core i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz

 * Memory: 8192 MB RAM

 * BIOS Revision: F.33 (Date: 10/04/2023)

Issue Description:

Hello HP Community / Support Team,

I am experiencing a critical boot issue with my internal storage drive (SSD) on my HP 15s laptop.

 1. Initial Boot Error: During power-on / POST, the laptop displays a black screen error stating: "Abnormal status reported by Rapid Storage Technology UEFI driver."

2. Boot Failure (Error 3F0): Following the initial prompt, the system fails to boot into Windows and throws a blue screen diagnostic error: "Boot Device Not Found. Please install an operating system on your hard disk. Hard Disk - (3F0)"

3. Windows Setup Drive Detection: When attempting a fresh installation of Windows via a bootable USB, no drives/partitions appear on the "Where do you want to install Windows?" screen.

Troubleshooting Attempted:

 * Attempted to enter BIOS setup to restore default settings.

 * Attempted to boot into HP System Diagnostics (F2).

 * Checked storage detection under Windows Setup.

Request:

  • Could you please guide me on whether this indicates a physical NVMe SSD failure needing hardware replacement, or if there is an updated BIOS/Intel RST VMD driver configuration fix available for this model?

Thank you!

@Chandan_Bisht11,

Your notebook has a 512 GB M.2 NVMe SSD with embedded 32 GB Optane memory.

An "abnormal status reported by Rapid Storage Technology . . ." error is usually indicative of malfunctioning Optane memory or damaged Optane volume raid formation.

Optane and an NVMe SSD are paired together to create a type of raid formation to accelerate the performance of the SSD. If this formation is broken or Optane is physically damaged, Windows will no longer be loaded.

What you can do first is to run a hard drive test. Turn on the notebook and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly for a hard drive test and run SMART check and short/long DST tests.

The tests probably show two SSDs: SSD 1 (NVMe SSD) and SSD 2 (Optane).  Please post back with screenshots of the test results.
