i finally got this BIOS update to run to create the USB drive  .. the only laptop i found that would run it was an HP! Clearly there is something in how it runs that it doesnt like on particular laptops - no doubt HP themselves dont care but thankfully I should now have a solution to fixing my £400 brick...

 

after putting the USB drive into the laptop and booting with the Win B option it simply tells me it needs the bios update to run so restart the pc , restart it and lo and behold it tells me the bios is corrupt and w9nt copy over the bios from the USB drive … oh Ffs 🤦‍♂️ …. This is absolute nonsense ..thought I was going t9 fix it but suspect the board is corrupt (these laptops don’t even have a cmos battery I can pull) 

 

I give up…..

 

Might help others , or it might not ...
