Hi @24w1,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Pavilion Desktop is stuck on the "Choose an option" screen and lacks the expected reset or recovery options, you can try the following steps to regain access to your system:
1. Restart Your Computer
- Hard reboot: Hold down the power button until the computer shuts off completely. Wait for a few seconds, then turn it back on.
- If the same screen reappears, proceed to the next step.
2. Access Advanced Startup Options
- Boot into advanced recovery options:
- Turn off the computer.
- Turn it on and immediately start pressing the F11 key repeatedly until the recovery options menu appears.
- If you see "Advanced Options," select it.
- Try Startup Repair.
3. Boot into Safe Mode
- From the "Choose an option" screen:
- Click Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- Once the computer restarts, press the number corresponding to Safe Mode.
- If Safe Mode works, you can attempt a reset from within Windows:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Reset this PC.
4. Use a Bootable USB Drive
If the above options fail, create a Windows installation media on another device:
- Prepare a bootable USB drive:
- Download the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's website.
- Use it to create a bootable USB drive with the Windows installation files.
- Boot from USB:
- Insert the USB drive into the affected computer.
- Restart and press Esc or F9 to open the boot menu.
- Select the USB drive.
- Repair your system:
- Choose Repair your computer instead of installing Windows.
- Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options and try:
- Startup Repair
- System Restore (if available)
- Reattempt a reset.
5. Reset via Command Prompt
If none of the above options work, you can reset via Command Prompt:
- Access Command Prompt through Troubleshoot > Advanced options.
- Enter the command to reset: systemreset -factoryreset
- If that doesn't work, try: systemreset
6. Full Windows Reinstallation
If recovery options are completely unavailable, reinstall Windows:
- Boot from the USB as described in Step 4.
- Select Install Windows, and follow the prompts.
- During setup, choose to format the drive (this will erase all data).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
