I have a brand new computer (HP Spectre 360) and I am setting it up. On the "Choose privacy settings for your device" screen the mouse curser cannot press anything (it can move but every time I try to click "Next" it doesn't work). I have already rebooted and started the process again and the same thing happened on the same page and I cannot proceed further. It looks like other people have had this problem but how do you solve it and continue doing setup?

Hi @Spectre3602023,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Spectre x360 laptop is stuck on the "Choose privacy settings for your device" setup screen, it can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to try and resolve the issue. Here's what you can do.
Wait it Out: Sometimes, the setup process can take a while to complete, especially if there are updates or other background tasks happening. Give it some time, perhaps 30 minutes to an hour, to see if it progresses.
Restart: If it's been stuck for a long time, try restarting the laptop. Sometimes, a simple reboot can resolve software glitches. To do this, press and hold the power button until the laptop turns off, then turn it back on.
Check for Hardware Issues: Make sure there are no external devices connected to your laptop that might be causing a conflict. Disconnect any peripherals, like printers, external hard drives, or USB devices.
Force Restart: If a regular restart doesn't work, you can try a force restart. To do this, press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds until the laptop powers off. Then, turn it back on.
Boot into Safe Mode: If the issue persists, you can try booting your laptop into Safe Mode. This will load only essential drivers and might help bypass the issue. To do this:
- Turn off your laptop.
- Turn it on, and as soon as you see the HP logo, press the F8 key repeatedly until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears.
- Use the arrow keys to select "Safe Mode," then press Enter.
Perform a System Restore: If you can access Safe Mode, you might want to perform a system restore to a point before you encountered this issue. This can often fix problems related to recent software changes.
- Type "system restore" in the Windows search bar and select "Create a restore point."
- In the System Properties window, click the "System Restore" button and follow the on-screen instructions.
Reinstall Windows: If none of the above steps work, you may need to reinstall Windows. To do this, you will need a bootable Windows installation media (like a USB drive or DVD). Boot from the installation media, and during setup, choose to perform a clean installation of Windows. This will erase all data on your laptop, so make sure you have backups.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
