Laptop: HP Envy dv7 Windows 8
Hello. I have a problem with my laptop and I hope you guys can help. I was trying to upgrade it from windows 8 to 10 but my problem is that whenever i boot windows 10 media creation tool, i get stuck on the windows logo then crashes with the msg “Your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart. We’re just collecting some error info, and then we’ll restart for you”.
Then it goes back to the blue Recovery screen with this msg.
Your pc needs to be repaired
A required device isn’t connected or cant be accessed.
Error code: 0xc0000225
You’ll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you dont have any installation media (like a disk or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer.
Press Enter to try again
Press F8 for Startup Settings
Press Esc for UEFI Firmware Settings
When i press F8 nothing happens
When i press Enter i get this msg:
The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contain errors.
File:\\WINDOWS\system32\winload.efi
Error code: 0xc000000f
When i press Esc i get to black screen Startup Menu
F1 System Information
F2 System Diagnostic
F9 Boot device option
F10 BIOS setup
F11 System Recovery
Enter - Continue startup
*When i press F11 and Enter it only goes back to the blue Recovery screen.
What i tried already:
- i did all system diagnostic test and everything is good
- legacy boot enabled, secure boot disabled then tried to run usb (boot device option F9) windows 10 media creation tool again but same thing happens (stuck on windows logo)
- updated bios (F.13 to F.2e which is the latest)
- created a bootable usb windows 8 disk image (iso file) through rufus. (Still stuck on windows logo then back to blue recovery screen)
- created usb recovery drive from another windows 10 pc (your pc ran into some problem msg then back to blue recovery screen)
- tried turning off and on three times to get the automatic repair window but no luck.
- removed battery then tried hard resetting still nothing
If anyone could help me, i would appreciate it so much.

Hello again,
*Btw, I used windows 10 instead because windows 11 was not compatible on my laptop.
I took out the SSD as u said and it worked.
When i turned on the laptop, the system said that the HDD was disabled but i manage to enabled it somehow. After that i turned off legacy mode then restarted the laptop and then the windows installer came up automatically. Also i did clean diskpart before installing windows on the hard drive. Then windows 10 was installed successfully.
Also, is the 32gb SSD suppose to show up in the system or not? Because i only see the HDD on my computer.
Anyway, my laptop is now running windows 10! Thank you so much, i appreciate ur help!!

Hello @Laoo
32 GB SSD will be visible if you set BIOS: Intel Rapid Start Technology <Enabled>
You're welcome !
Good luck
