Hello dear HP community!

My Name is Sebastian and I recently have been having some troubles with my Laptop.

In summer, my HP Omen 16-xf0xxx fried through its sensor that checks if the lid is closed and had to be repaired. For the time it was being repaired, I used a weaker replacement PC given to me by a friend. Now my Omen is back at full power and in use. To not lose any files, I cloned my disk with Macrium Reflect. When I transferred the files to the weaker PC back in summer, a simple Windows Update fixed all the driver mismatches and anything else, however now that I transferred the files back to the good computer, I have been having a couple issues.

The first couple boots of the day often stutter and lead to BSODs with a Video Scheduling Error.

After that it seems to be totally fine and I could work and play games like normal.

At some point I realized that the SSD wasn't partitioned correctly, leaving me with 1TB less than I could have had, so I fixed that problem and installed all the newest drivers from the Windows Update tab in the settings, including the optional ones.

The problem didn't go away like it had on the weaker PC. So now I tried to manually reinstall the drivers. I downloaded all the newest ones from the HP website, did a DDU to remove the AMD and NVIDIA graphics drivers, all of that in the Safe Mode, and then started installing the drivers.

At first I did the BIOS driver which seemed to work fine, then the AMD driver which also seemed to work fine, but as I got to the NVIDIA driver, the PC started crashing, giving me BSODs, displaying error messages like the Watchdog one or Page in Nonpaged Area.

I let it rest for a while, thinking that the system is probably doing background tasks to properly boot everything up and fill caches and whatnot but as I tried to install the next few drivers, which were the firmware ones, the BSODs kept happening and the whole system became very stuttery and the audio very choppy.

I have now booted it into safe mode which works totally fine, so I'm pretty confident that the hardware is absolutely fine. From here I am now doing a manual backup, trying to save as many of my files and programs to an external hard drive as possible, before trying to enter windows without the safe mode again, then doing a proper backup and then letting Windows Update hopefully restore a stable version of my drivers.

My PC has turned from inconvenient crashes but generally working to pretty unusable. What can I do in my current situation?

Cloning from a weaker PC likely carried mismatched registry entries and drivers, worsening issues on the Omen. First, back up or save your important data on the weaker PC, then perform a clean Windows reinstallation on your Omen using a bootable USB. Create the bootable USB using the Microsoft ISO with Rufus software in GPT partition scheme.

Boot into the USB on the Omen and perform a clean install. From the Windows installation screen, delete the Windows drive and all its partitions; once done successfully, unallocated space will appear, select it and install Windows. After installation, update Windows first, then use DDU and install the NVIDIA driver.
