My laptop shuts down suddenly from time to time. It is unpredictable behavior. I do not know what the reason is. When it dies, it gives me a message saying no hard desk found! when it dies, it also comes back by its own most of the times. one issue I already have in my device is the weak battery for which I am trying to find a compatible replacement. could that be it? Please help as it is so frustrating and making me lose a lot of work and start from scratch every single time.

Are you using it on battery when it shuts down? Or is it plugged into the charger and still shutting down?

Thank you, WAWood, for your response. My laptop shutdowns while it is plugged into the charger. In fact, I can't unplug the charger, otherwise it would be a matter of 10 minutes before the battery dies.

Sounds like the battery is not holding a charge -- but that does not explain why the laptop is shutting down while connected to the charger.

How old is the laptop and how long has it been doing this?

This issue has been happening for 8 months now. However, it has been happening more frequent recently. I have had this laptop for more than 5 years now.

No doubt the battery needs a replacement. The issue here now is that I have not been able to find a compatible one for HP.
