Hi @LAPTOP-62OJH7OL,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your laptop is experiencing overheating issues, unexpected shutdowns, and battery problems. Here are steps to diagnose and address these issues:

1. Overheating and Shutdowns

  • Dust Accumulation: Dust can block ventilation and cause overheating. Use compressed air to clean out dust from the vents and fans.
  • Fan Operation: Ensure that the fan is working properly. If it’s making unusual noises, it might be malfunctioning or clogged.
  • Thermal Paste: Over time, the thermal paste between the CPU/GPU and heatsink can degrade. If you’re comfortable with it, consider reapplying thermal paste. If not, seek professional help.
  • External Cooling: A cooling pad can help reduce the temperature by providing additional airflow.
  • Surface: Place the laptop on a hard, flat surface to ensure proper ventilation. Avoid using it on soft surfaces like beds or couches.
  • Temperature Monitoring: Use software like HWMonitor or SpeedFan to check the internal temperatures. If temperatures are consistently high, it indicates a cooling issue.
  • BIOS Update: Check the hp website for BIOS updates that might improve thermal management.Drivers: Update graphics and chipset drivers as they can affect thermal performance.

2. Battery Issues

  • Battery Report: Use the battery report command in Windows Command Prompt to check the health of the battery. Open Command Prompt and type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter.
  • Replace Battery: If the report indicates degraded health or if the battery is not holding a charge, consider replacing it.
  • Power Plan: Ensure that your power settings are configured correctly. Go to Control Panel > Power Options and select a balanced power plan.
  • Charger and Port: Check if the charger and charging port are working correctly. A faulty charger or port can affect charging and power.
  • Battery Calibration: Fully charge the battery to 100%, then let it drain completely until the laptop shuts down. Charge it back to 100% to recalibrate.
  • Disconnect Battery: If you have a removable battery, try running the laptop on AC power only to see if the issue persists. This can help identify if the battery is the problem.

3. System Diagnostics

  • Built-in Diagnostics: Use built-in diagnostics tools provided by the laptop manufacturer. For HP laptops, you can run diagnostics by pressing F2 during startup.
  • Clean Boot: Perform a clean boot to check if any third-party software is causing issues. Type msconfig in the search bar, go to the Services tab, and check Hide all Microsoft services. Click Disable all, then restart the laptop.
  • Reset Windows: If software issues are suspected, consider performing a system reset or clean installation of Windows. Ensure you have backups of your important data.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
