Not sure if it'll last, but just to say I uninstalled the synaptics software from programs and features, and the drivers in device manager (clicked the delete tickbox).

Restarted, and installed the aforementioned Windows 7/8 synaptics software and driver pack, changed settings to turn pinch zoom etc off and then restarted again, and it seems to have fixed the error for now. Hope this helps and this is the end of it!

Now just need to get this issue sorted where I can't put my Laptop to sleep

Well, I thought I had it fixed using the driver WIn 10 installed, but it would revert to reverse scrolling after a restart.

I followed the directions on how to uninstall the new driver and then installed the old one. I then hid a few drivers so that they won't be updated by Windows Update. You don't always need the latest drivers.

I now don't have it working right but scrolling is working as expected.

Is anyone having trouble getting the right-click context menu to work with two or three finger tapping/clicking? It seems that I can only do it with two fingers pressing down ahrd enough on the touchscreen (mine moves at the lower corners instead of having separate buttons as my previous laptop had).

At least I got StartMenuX to work and I now have a WIndows 7 style program menu that's customizable (like putting multiple program roups into categories). There's a free and an inexpensive pro version. Even the free version gives you a nice Windows 7 like program menu, better than Start10 does. Here's the link in case anyone is interested:

Upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10. used your suggestions to use old driver.  Reinstalled driver from 2011 and now the one finger scroll works on everything except Edge (internet Explorer ) or links using the Edge explorer.  At least it works with spread sheets which I am using most of the time.

Your welcome Donald!

I am having the same problem as everyone else in here. I upgraded my HP Envy X360 TouchSmart to Windows 10 and now my touchpad settings will not save. I personally do not like using the touchpad because I have a habit of resting my hands on it which can cause problems when it is active. I usually check the box to disable the touchpad whenever an external mouse is connected to the laptop. But every time my computer is restarted, the settings are erased and I have to do it all over again. I tried removing the drivers and reinstalling them. That worked for a little while, and then it started happening again. So I reverted back to Windows 8.1, then I did a full recovery of the computer and reset it to factory settings. I then reinstalled Windows 10, and I am still having the same problem.

On top of that, since installing Windows 10 my computer gets stuck on sleep mode every time and I have to use the power button to shut it down and turn it back on.

And even when I do shut down the laptop, it still drains the battery as if something is running on it. I have had this happen twice that I have noticed so far. I shut it down with an almost full battery and went to bed; the next morning, both times, the battery was dead when I tried to turn it back on.

Is there any news about whether Microsoft or HP are working on a fix for this issue? It seems a lot of us are having the same problem. There are a lot of really cool things about Windows 10; I would hate to have to revert back to 8.1 permanently. Any advice on how to fix is welcome.

Thanks

Thank you @ryanadamsfan for posting your solution, worked perfectly for me as well.

Appreciate the time taken to post this.

Just revert back to the old drivers for Synatics and it will work. It worked for me.

One thing you can also try is to go to control panel, then device manager, then find your touchpad device. Open that click properties, then click on the driver tab. Click on update driver, then search automatically for updated driver software, then see if it finds a newer driver. Mine went to version 19.0.12.95 dated 7/15/2015, so it's a very recent driver.

I don't know why Windows didn't take care of that during the upgrade but I'm going to give this new one a try. I got some functions back that I lost and was working around by using other settings to do the same things, like the right-click context menu. I now have it back with a two finger tap. I wasn't able to do that with the one that Windows 10 installed.

I should mention that I changed a setting under two-finger scrolling by unchecking "enable reverse scrolling" which made scrolling work backwards from what it did before the upgrade. I don't remember what I had it set at before the upgrade but it was checked when I upgraded to the new driver.

I hope this helps someone else. If it helps you, please give it a thumbs up. I don;t know what the thumbs up does but it must be something positive.
