Every few weeks my laptop will crash and start doing a system bios update. It will repeat it several times in a loop and eventually does stop and reload. Do I have some sort of virus? I am nervous that at some point it will fail to restart normally. I have not at any point requested this update and not sure why it is happening. Help please! Thank you

Used to be that BIOS updates on HP laptops were done only from HP downloads and you were provided a choice as to whether or not to do those.
But more recently, with newer laptops, Microsoft has also been pushing out BIOS updates -- and like with Windows Updates, those are not so reliable and can crash the laptop. If these are what is happening, you're in a bad situation because, unlike with older versions of Windows, you can't prevent the installation of specific updates.
What I would suggest does not prevent these but if you can do this, it would provide you a tool to use to restore a working PC if the laptop gets forced into a BIOS update: Go into the BIOS/UEFI settings, look for BIOS/Firmware update, and see if it provides the feature for backing off the existing BIOS to a USB stick. If it does, then do that -- and set that aside.
