Hi @missy251,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "System Disabled" message followed by a numeric code (e.g., 61998563) on an HP laptop indicates that the BIOS is locked, and the system is requesting a recovery or reset password. Here's how you can address this issue.
Use the Numeric Code for a Backdoor Password
HP laptops often allow you to bypass the BIOS lock with a master password generated from the "System Disabled" code. You can try the following:
Online BIOS Master Code Generators:
- Use trusted online tools to generate a master password based on the code (e.g., 61998563).
- Search for "HP BIOS master password generator" and enter the code when prompted.
Manual Attempt:
- Try entering the code 61998563 directly as the password (some models may use it as a recovery code).
Resetting BIOS Settings
If you successfully access the BIOS and want to reset it:
- Enter BIOS:
- Reboot the laptop and press the appropriate key (Esc, F10, or F2) during startup to enter the BIOS.
- Reset to Default:
- Navigate to the BIOS settings and select the option to "Load Setup Defaults" or "Reset BIOS to Factory Defaults."
- Save and Exit:
- Save your changes and exit the BIOS.
Note:
- If you continue to experience issues, the CMOS battery reset may not have worked because some HP laptops store BIOS settings in non-volatile memory. This requires a more advanced reset or reprogramming of the BIOS chip.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
