my HP stream 14 laptop will not boot up. An error message briefly pops up on the screen shortly after turning it on that says “system bios pending image is being cleared. do not turn off or remove power supply from your computer during the clear.”
this message has continued to pop up on my computer for over four hours now and I have not turned it off or unplugged it. How do I fix this. This is a brand new computer and I’ve only used it for a couple of days prior to this happening.

Hi @Mztblu,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Stream 14 is stuck in a BIOS update or clearing process, which can sometimes happen if there's an issue during the BIOS update or if the update process is stuck. Here’s how you can try to resolve it.
Wait a Little Longer: Sometimes, BIOS updates can take a while, especially if there's a large update or if the process is stuck. It’s unusual, but if you’ve only had the laptop for a couple of days, it might still be worth giving it more time to complete.
Power Cycle: If waiting doesn’t work, you can try a power cycle. Here’s how:
- Turn off the laptop by holding down the power button for 10-15 seconds.
- Disconnect any external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
- Unplug the power adapter.
- Remove the battery if it is removable (not all laptops have removable batteries).
- Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reconnect the battery and power adapter.
- Turn on the laptop.
Check for BIOS Recovery: Some HP laptops have a BIOS recovery feature. To access it:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press and hold the Windows + B keys, then press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds.
- Release the keys and see if the BIOS recovery screen appears. Follow the on-screen instructions if it does.
It's important not to interrupt the BIOS clearing process unless you are sure it's been stuck for an unusually long time or you have exhausted all other options.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
