Hp notebook
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

On startup I get the following message: 'The followng product information programmed into system board is missing or invalid- System board (00A) System Board CT Number" I have tried to retrieve the CT number by hitting 'Esc' on startup, then F1. It gives me a product number, serial number, Build ID etc but for 'CT Number' it simply says 'CT Number : Hewlett Packard' Is this an error that will effect my laptop's performance?

@Smcclurg98

Welcome to the HP Forums,

We'll be with you until it's all sorted & beyond!

Have you made any recent hardware changes to the motherboard or any other hardware component of your device?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to know:

Product Information not valid - The following product information programmed into the system board is missing or invalid.
System Board (00A) - Product Configuration - You might see this message after the system board is replaced. The message indicates that the serial number was not entered, or was entered incorrectly, after replacing the system board or another component.

To resolve this issue, contact HP using the Contact Support tab at the top of this screen. You will be asked to provide the fourteen-digit System Board Commodity Tracking (CT) Number. Use the steps in one of the following sections to find the CT Number:

  1. Turn off the computer.

  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly, about once every second.

  3. Press F1 to view System Information.

  4. Find the System Board CT Number listed on the System Information screen.

To find the CT number printed on the system board on your notebook computer, open the memory access door or service door. The CT number is often located near or under the primary SODIMM memory slot.

For instructions to complete this procedure, refer to the Maintenance and Service Guide for your notebook model, found in the User Guides section of your model: Click here to view it.
