HP ENVY - 17-bw0001ns

Hello,

I have an ENVY - 17-bw0001ns laptop and it is complaining about System Fan not working correctly. The fan does like 'cycle sprints', increasing its rpm and suddenly stops, like running at full speed and stop every 2 or 3 seconds in short 'sprints' (I don't know how to call it) of 1 or 2 seconds at full speed. Non stop. While having this behaviour, the system performs terrible, extremely slow.

I opened the rear cover of the laptop, cleaned the fan and while it is opened (with no rear-cover), it works smoothly and fast. If I place the rear cover again, in a few hours or days, it happens again. I don't understand this behaviour. It seems something physically related to the fact of having or not the rear cover (temperarture maybe? some wrong sensor? who knows.

Any ideas?

Regards

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are getting issues with the system fan, I am glad to assist you.

Update the Bios, chipset, and drivers using HP Support Assistant.

Download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: Click here

  • HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook
  • Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  • Click Updates in the My notebook pane
  • Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  • Updates list in HP Support Center
  • Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  • Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  • Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also, ensure Windows is up to date.

  • Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Let me know how it goes.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.

Unfortunately, the link you posted is not working. Still, I already have the latest BIOS from HP site and all drivers available. The error appears before the OS starts, so I guess it is not a Windows issue. The fan goes like crazy up & down and the laptop is terrible slow. The CPU is not running high (below 10%) and temperature is not high. I'll try to change the fan (a shoot in the air, I know), just to try something.

It seems definetely a hw issue somewhere.

Thanks and regards,
