TOOOOOOO Slow Notebook - HP Pavilion -15-cc665cl

HP Pavilion -15-cc665cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought this notebook about a year ago but didn't really use it.

Since day one it's working too slow, I reset the pc twice but every time it ends up at the same speed in a day or two max.

I noted time from booting it to actually being able to use it and it's 2 minutes 24 seconds on avg which is a lot and not to mention that my network is working great on other devices but on this one i need 5 minutes to open the Gmail only, the browser keeps loading.

I have contacted Microsoft support twice and did everything they mentioned regarding boot settings and all but no effect.

I was thinking to install windows 7 but i am facing the issue of "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a drive floppy disk, cd, dvd or usb flash drive please inset it now."

Apart from that, i am aware that Win 7 isn't supported and there are no drivers for this device either for the said OS.

I am really frustrated at this and have no clue on how can i resolve it?

Any suggestions/help that actually result in a smooth experience is greatly appreciated.

@FaZi280, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I have a few steps to identify and resolve the issue:

Common causes of slow system performance:

  • Not enough free disk space or disk errors.

  • Applications that require a lot of system resources.

  • Too many tasks running at the same time.

  • Nonessential graphic features.

  • Not enough memory.

  • Overheating due to intensive graphic applications or dust in vents.

  • Running multiple instances of anti-virus software.

Microsoft Fix it Solution to automatically improve system performance

To automatically improve system performance, click the Microsoft Fix it Solution:

MS Fixit 974820

Turning off nonessential graphical features to improve system performance

Graphical features and programs can use a lot of system resources.

Turning off these features can improve system performance.

This section explains how to adjust visual effects for best performance and how to disable Windows Aero.

Disabling Windows Aero

The best way to do that is by using the HP Guided Troubleshooter:

Click here to access it (simply select your description of the issue from the bottom of the screen to gain access to the next set of steps that should resolve your concern).

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

TOOOOOOO Slow Notebook - HP Pavilion -15-cc665cl

Hi @TEJ1602

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question.

Common causes of slow system performance:

  • Not enough free disk space or disk errors.  - The only thing i have in my 1TB HD is Window.

  • Applications that require a lot of system resources. - None, ram usage & CPU usage 25-35 & 1-10 respectively

  • Too many tasks running at the same time. - Not applicable, I just start my PC and have to wait for 5 minutes before i can open anything and another 5 minutes to open my Gmail.

  • Nonessential graphic features. - Not applicable

  • Not enough memory. - N/A

  • Overheating due to intensive graphic applications or dust in vents. - Temp is far below the average of laptops, stays around 35-40

  • Running multiple instances of anti-virus software. - I have Avira (now) & McAfee (before), I disabled that but doesn't help

Windows Updates - All the updates are installed, I am using version 1803 so I think I have to upgrade windows too as the support for 1803 is ending soon by MS.

Links you provided for Graphics & Aero, don't open and gives me 405 error.

Currently, I am following HP Guided troubleshooter and scanning my PC for malware or viruses as of now.

So far, I don't see any improvement in it's working but I am going to keep following the troubleshooter and see where it takes me.

In the meantime, if you have anything else to recommend, I would highly appreciate it.

@FaZi280

Let us try performing an extensive test. Here is how you do it-

1.  Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

2.  Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

3.  On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.

4.   Click Extensive Test.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

@FaZi280

Try creating a new user account on your PC. Refer to the video link for help. Once the account is created, log in to the new account and see if it works fine.

If the issue persists, reset windows. Refer to the document HP PCs - Resetting Your Computer (Windows 10) for steps.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

@TEJ1602

I created new user as directed by the link it significantly improved the start-up time as Avira tool showed 194 seconds for main user & 17 seconds for the newly created one.

But the performance after the start-up is better in main user and not the newly created one.

As for resetting the PC, I did that the day before I made this thread and computer was comparatively better for initial 2-3 startups and after that, it came back to the same delayed startup and poor performance.

The only thing between the first 2-3 startups and later startups was windows update.

At this point, I am thinking this machine is messed up and I was scammed. I wish i had used it in warranty time and had it replaced.
