If your TPM appears to be enabled in BIOS but is not showing up in Windows via tpm.msc or recognized by applications like Fortnite, follow the steps below to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
Steps to Verify and Enable TPM in BIOS:
Enter BIOS Setup:
- Restart your computer.
- During the boot process, press F10 (or the dedicated key for your system) to enter BIOS setup.
Navigate to the Security Settings:
- Go to the Security tab.
- Ensure that TPM State is set to Enabled.
- Ensure the TPM Device is set to Available.
- Ensure Clear TPM is set to On next boot.
Check Necessary Settings:
- Ensure DMA Protection is enabled.
- Ensure Intel® Software Guard Extensions (SGX) is Enabled if supported.
- Ensure TPM Activation Policy is correctly set.
- Save changes and exit the BIOS.
Steps to Verify TPM in Windows:
Using TPM.MSC Tool:
- Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog.
- Type tpm.msc and press Enter.
- Check if TPM is listed and its status (e.g., ready for use).
Using Device Manager:
- Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Security Devices section.
- Verify if you see Trusted Platform Module 1.2 or Trusted Platform Module 2.0.
Using Windows Settings:
- Open Settings (Windows Key + I).
- Go to Update & Security.
- Select Windows Security.
- Under Device Security, click Security processor details.
Additional Troubleshooting Steps:
Ensure Windows Update:
- Make sure your Windows is up-to-date. Sometimes updates can resolve compatibility issues.
- Go to Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Update and check for updates.
Clear TPM via Windows:
- If after enabling TPM in BIOS it is still not recognized, try clearing TPM via Windows:
- Open tpm.msc.
- In the Actions section, click Clear TPM and follow the prompts.
Reinstall TPM Drivers:
- In Device Manager, right-click Trusted Platform Module and select Update driver or Uninstall device followed by a reboot to reinstall the driver.
