You're welcome. You have been fabulous to work with considering your superb technical skills and valuable patience. Kudos to you for that.

I suggest you to perform a Microsoft Push Button Reset. This repairs your computer by reinstalling the operating system. This can be done either while preserving your personal data and customizations, or removing all your personal data.

This HP document shows how to perform a Microsoft Push Button reset: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-17-Notebook-PC-series/10862170/model/11792512/docum...

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

MKazi is at your service.

I understand that you have an HP ENVY - 13-ad160tu laptop and the laptop does not shutdown by pressing Shutdown button at the StartMenu, the light is still on. Also, the laptop overheats. Not to worry, I'll be glad to assist you with this case.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Did any updates happen on the laptop after which this issue started?
  • Does the laptop power off after it overheats?

While you respond to that. I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

During my research, I came across this HP document that helps fix overheating related issues in Windows 10: https://hp.care/2J4TLJW

Secondly, you may download and install the BIOS update for your laptop via this link: https://hp.care/2Lr4Fbb

NOTE: Please have the charger connected to the laptop while updating the BIOS. Because the BIOS update must not get interrupted due to the battery draining out.

I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Let me know the outcome. I'll be glad to assist you further.

Cheers! 🙂
