HP Pavilion Laptop PC 14-dv0000 (46P38AV)

Hello,

I have noticed that my Windows Key does not seem to be functioning. Whenever I press it, nothing happens. Whenever I click the Windows icon on the taskbar, nothing happens as well.

Along with this, the search button and Microsoft store do not seem to be functioning either.

Is there any help I can get to fix this please?

Hi @Sarcastic420,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the Windows key on your HP Pavilion Laptop PC 14 is not working, you can try several troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Here's what you can do.

Restart Your Computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix minor issues. Restart your laptop and see if the Windows key starts working again.

Check for Physical Damage: Inspect the Windows key to ensure it's not physically damaged or stuck. If you find any physical issues, you might need to get it repaired or replaced.

Try an External Keyboard: If you have an external keyboard, connect it to your laptop and check if the Windows key works on the external keyboard. This can help determine if the issue is with the laptop's keyboard itself.

Check Keyboard Settings:

  • Press the "Windows" key along with "X" and select "Control Panel" or "Settings."
  • Navigate to "Ease of Access" or "Accessibility" settings.
  • Make sure the "Filter Keys" and "Sticky Keys" options are turned off.

Update or Roll Back Keyboard Drivers:

  • Right-click on the "Start" button and select "Device Manager."
  • Expand the "Keyboards" section, right-click on your keyboard, and select "Update driver."
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to update the driver. If updating doesn't work, you can try rolling back the driver to a previous version.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your operating system is up-to-date. Sometimes, Windows updates include fixes for keyboard issues.
  • Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Windows Update" and check for updates.

Run the Keyboard Troubleshooter:

  • Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Troubleshoot."
  • Click on "Additional troubleshooters."
  • Select "Keyboard" and run the troubleshooter.

Perform a System Restore:

  • If the issue started after a recent software change, you can perform a system restore to revert your computer to a previous state when the Windows key was working.
  • Search for "Create a restore point" and select "System Restore" to initiate the process.

Check for Malware: Sometimes, malware can interfere with keyboard functionality. Run a full system scan using your antivirus software.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
