Microsoft Windows 11

My fan used to sound oddly and constantly (it kept making sound and the fan ran constantly and never stoped as soon as I opened my laptop), and I just got a new fan for my laptop. The sound became better, I can say that it's making normal sound of a laptop fan. But the problem is that it just keeps on making sound as soon as I open the laptop and it never stops even though the CPU is completely normal och stable, and the processor is normal. To normal laptops, the fan starts working just when the CPU is overwhelmed och processor is hot, but my laptop's fan sounds everytime I turn on it.

Hi @Ruby031,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your laptop's fan is running continuously, even when the system isn't under heavy load or experiencing high temperatures. This behavior could be due to several reasons.

  • Fan Settings in BIOS/UEFI: Sometimes, the fan settings in the BIOS/UEFI might be configured to run the fan continuously. You can check and adjust these settings by entering the BIOS/UEFI during startup (usually by pressing a key like F2, F10, or Delete) and looking for fan control settings.
  • Fan Calibration: If the fan is not properly calibrated, it might run constantly. Some laptops have a fan calibration utility within the BIOS or through proprietary software provided by the HP. Check if there’s an option to calibrate the fan.
  • Thermal Management Software: Your laptop might have pre-installed software for thermal management, such as HP's Thermal Assistant or HP Support Assistant. Ensure that the software is up-to-date and check its settings for any fan control options.
  • Dust or Obstruction: Although you mentioned you have a new fan, ensure there’s no dust or obstruction in the fan or cooling system that might be affecting its operation.
  • Hardware Issue: Since you recently replaced the fan, there might be an issue with the new fan or its installation. Ensure that the fan is properly connected and seated.
  • System Updates: Sometimes, a system or BIOS update can resolve issues related to hardware management. Check for any available updates for your laptop.
  • Temperature Sensor Issues: If the temperature sensors in your laptop are malfunctioning, they might incorrectly signal the fan to run continuously. If you suspect this, you might need to have the sensors checked or replaced.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
