Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-d0000 (2V8U8AV)

For some time now the PC has been freezing and I can only restart or switch users. Explorer freezes but edge continues to work. I can't make the backup. I've tried everything and I've also opened other requests in two other forums. But I haven't completely solved it yet. Today I decided to try it here. The laptop is still under extended warranty. Every now and then when reboot it gives me BIOS error 502

Hi @einst,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing some frustrating issues with your Victus By HP 16.1 Inch Gaming Laptop. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the freezing and BIOS error.

  • Update Drivers: Ensure that all your device drivers, especially graphics and chipset drivers, are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause system instability.
  • Check for Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows operating system is fully updated. Updates often include stability improvements and bug fixes.
  • Scan for Malware: Perform a full system scan using your antivirus software to rule out malware or viruses causing the freezing issue.
  • Check for Overheating: Ensure that your laptop isn't overheating. Use a cooling pad if necessary and check if the laptop's vents are clear of dust and debris.
  • BIOS Update: Since you mentioned a BIOS error (502), consider updating your BIOS to the latest version provided by HP. Be sure to follow the HP instructions carefully when updating the BIOS.
  • Disk Cleanup: Perform a disk cleanup to remove unnecessary files that could be causing system slowdowns.
  • Check for Hardware Issues: If the problem persists, it could indicate a hardware issue such as a failing hard drive or RAM. You may want to run hardware diagnostics provided by HP.
  • System Restore or Reset: As a last resort, consider performing a system restore to a point where your laptop was functioning correctly. If that doesn't help, you might need to reset your Windows installation.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

First of all I thank you for your answer, directly and I didn't find a thumbs up, but just a question if it was helpful yes/no.

These are excellent tips and therefore could be of help to others too.

Unfortunately my situation is very particular.

I was able to get support directly from one of your technicians who made me do everything to resolve the bios problem. We also reinstalled the bios.

But in the end the solution is to reset to the factory situation.

However, I haven't yet managed to make a backup of the data and I don't have the money to take the PC to a technician.

So I'm making do with backing up the data and then I'll do a new installation.

My PC came with Linux and I had to buy a Windows license and install it.

I remember that it wasn't easy to find the disk drivers to install Windows. I did everything myself in his time.

Now I'm a little worried because I don't remember anything.

It does not have a factory recovery partition.

Maybe it has the Windows one for basic installation. If I need help when I have managed to back up the data, I will contact you either here or with support via WhatsApp.

I don't think it's a hardware or virus problem, I think some Windows configuration data has been damaged.

I have already done all the advice you gave me but unfortunately I have to reinstall everything from scratch.

But first backup and I'm having great difficulty so far I haven't succeeded.
