Hi @rebib,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If you are experiencing a situation where your HP laptop says "authentication failed" and is locked, here are some steps you might take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Restart the Laptop: Sometimes, restarting the laptop can resolve temporary glitches. Since you can only shut down, hold the power button to turn the system off, wait for a few seconds, and then power it back on.

Check Keyboard Functionality: Ensure that your keyboard is working correctly and that there are no keys stuck, as this can cause incorrect password entries.

Boot in Safe Mode: If you're able to access advanced boot options, try to start your laptop in Safe Mode. This might allow you to bypass some authentication settings and access the system to make necessary changes.

Use a Password Reset Disk: If you have previously created a password reset disk, you can use it to reset your password.

BIOS Password Reset: If the authentication issue occurs at the BIOS level, you may need to reset the BIOS settings, which can sometimes involve adjusting the jumper settings on the motherboard.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
