The laptop won't start at all, that's all. It seems like the battery is completely dead and it doesn't charge anymore. No lights come on and nothing happens when I try to turn it on.

@emtax, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

I understand your HP laptop won’t turn on, shows no lights, and seems like the battery is completely dead. Let’s walk through some steps to help diagnose and hopefully resolve the issue.

Perform a Hard Reset

This helps clear any residual electrical charge that might be preventing startup.

  • Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect only the AC adapter (leave the battery out if removable).
  • Try turning on the laptop.

Check the Power Adapter and Charging Port

  • Ensure the power adapter is plugged into a working wall outlet.
  • Look for any damage to the adapter cable or connector.
  • Try a different compatible HP charger if available.

Look for LED Indicators

  • Plug in the charger and check for any lights near the charging port or on the keyboard (Caps Lock, Power button).
  • If no lights appear, it could indicate a power delivery issue or motherboard fault.

Try a Battery Reset (for built-in batteries)

Some HP laptops have a pinhole battery reset button on the bottom.

  • Look for a small pinhole labeled Reset or Battery Reset.
  • Use a paperclip to press and hold it for 5–10 seconds.
  • Then try powering on the laptop again.

Test with Minimal Hardware

If possible:

  • Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
  • Try booting with only the charger connected.

BIOS Recovery (if lights blink or fans spin briefly)

If the laptop shows signs of life but doesn’t boot:

  • Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release all keys and wait to see if BIOS recovery starts.

I hope your issue is now resolved. If not, feel free to reply and we’ll continue helping until everything’s sorted!
