Hello
One week ago i turned on my laptop (HP ENVY x360 - 15-u170nb(ENERGY STAR)) and it didnt want to boot, instead the caps lock blinks twice then 3-5 seconds no blink.
I searched the forums and i think there might be something with my BIOS, so i downloaded the latest BIOS firmware (Jun 26, 2018; sp88691.exe) and extracted it on to a USB to create a BIOS recovery USB.
After I insert the USB, the laptop did start up to recover / update the BIOS, but then it says: The system BIOS recovery failed, Unable to open BIOS Signature File. Tried to restart over and over again, but didn't work.
Does anyone have a solution please?
Kind regards
Kerim

@KerDew You may want to try the BIOS recovery using the steps mentioned in this link: Click here
meanwhile, here's what you need to know:
3.5 (blink) represents:
The CPU is not detected and that's a hardware malfunction that will need a repair or replacement of parts.
Also, go through this link and tell me if that's 3 short blinks followed by 5 short blinks, or is there any difference?
Let me know how that pans out,

@KerDew I'm afraid that would confirm a hardware malfunction, as the BIOS recovery using the link I shared was the only step that could have worked since it hasn't I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options:
follow the below steps to get started:
1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/
2) Click on "Continue as guest".
3) Enter the serial of your device.
4) Select the country from the drop-down.
5) Click on "Show Options".
Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!
Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, is yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,
