Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Every few minutes the cursor freezes for 1-10 seconds. It's only the trackpad, a bluetooth mouse works fine. During the few second trackpad freeze, can still move the cursor with the mouse. Tried uninstalling drivers, different drivers, even Ubuntu. I experience the same behavior in both Windows 10 and Ubuntu.

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,

 

Let's start off by running a System test as well as a test on the Touchpad both from F2(Please remember to capture the failure ID for further assistance).

 

1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

3. On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.

4. Click Extensive Test.

5. Click Run once, or Loop until error. While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component are shown on the screen.

6. If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) so you have it available when you contact HP Customer Support. The information is also available in Test Logs on the main menu.

 

1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

3. On the main menu, click Component Tests

4. Run the test on the touchpad.

 

If the test passes, then this could be a software or driver related issue. 

 

I would suggest here is to Run Windows Updates troubleshooter -

 

Download and install the troubleshooter from this link.

 

Now try to perform Windows Updates - 

 

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates. 
2) Check for updates. 
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer. 

 

If the issue persists, I would suggest you update the Touchpad Driver from Device Manager

 

- In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
- In the list of devices, look for Mice and other pointing device, expand the list
- Right-click the Touchpad driver and select Update Driver Software.
- Click Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the updated driver.
- Restart your computer to complete the installation of the updates.

 

Next thing, I would suggest here is to update the Bios and Chipset drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.

Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.
