Hello APS7,
I’ve been going through different discussions today because I was having a similar issue of having trouble engaging the ship mode for battery as well. I figured out why I was having trouble though, it was because I did not have the power source connected when I was hitting the command keys to initiate ship mode. I know you started this thread a few months back and I’m not sure if you have a purpose for using the ship mode, but I figured after I came across your post I would reach out and share my experience. In the event I that you’re trying to put your computer into ship mode in the future, make sure that your power source is connected before you press CTRL/SHIFT/ALT/S keys. Not having a power source connected before pressing the command keys is precisely the reason that I was having trouble putting my laptop into ship mode. After I was promoted with choices for either engaging ship mode or exiting the screen, I disconnected my call power then pressed F1 to complete the process for putting battery in ship mode. I hope this helps.
