HP 255 15.6 inch G9 Notebook PC (50J79AV)

Trying to download the OS disk for this laptop.

Serial: [personal info removed]

Product: 7X9D3UT

I tried running the HP Cloud Recovery tool. When I enter the ProdID or Serial (7X9D3UT or 7X9D3UT#ABA or [Personal Information Removed]), I cannnot find HP 255 G9 in the Model Name in the drop-down selection list.

@KentF42,

If the cloud recovery tool is not available, you can install Windows from a Windows installation usb drive with MS media creation tool from this MS site.

I installed the software you suggested. Running the app as Administrator, I am not able to find the HP 255 G9 on the list of computers given.

I tried this on a 2nd HP 255 G9 computer as well:

I found that HP cloud recovery software you need to use is the cloud recovery tool, not the cloud recovery client.

But the cloud recovery tool is not supported. Type in your full product number at the link below and it tells you to contact HP support.

Cloud Recovery Verification Tool

Your model seems to be only two years+ old. PartSurfer indicates your model came with Windows preloaded (system board part #: N08588-601), so the cloud recovery tool should support your model.

I suggest you contact HP support, explain the situation and tell them you need a recovery usb drive urgently.

If you cannot get a recovery usb from HP, then your only option is to clean install W11 from Microsoft (see my previous reply).

The W11 product key is stored in the BIOS and the key will be automatically activated when you go online after the W11 installation is complete.
