I'm not popular here because I provide folks realistic replies, not politically correct replies.

And in your case, you are most likely out of luck.  Why?

Because the internal reset function likely no longer works and the only other way to do this is using HP Recovery Media -- but HP has not carried Vista media for some years now.

So basically, this can no longer be done.

As to the alternative of Clean Install, the problem there is that HP does not provide media for this and Microsoft also no longer does, either.  So, I know of no place to get the Windows media you would need.
