Hi @Tntruger556,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I’m sorry you’re going through this; I understand the concern and don’t worry I’ll help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  1. What is your HP laptop model?
  2. How long has it been stuck on the green screen?
  3. Did you recently install multiple updates, or was it just one restart/update?
  4. Is this the first time this has happened, or has it gotten stuck during updates before?

 Try These Troubleshooting Steps

1. Wait a Bit Longer

Sometimes Windows updates can look frozen even when they’re still installing in the background especially if it’s a big update.
If it’s been less than 30–45 minutes, give it a little more time.

2. Force Restart the Laptop

If it’s definitely stuck:

  1. Hold the power button for 10–15 seconds until the laptop turns off.
  2. Wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.

Windows usually resumes or rolls back the update automatically.

3. Boot Into Windows Recovery

If it keeps freezing:

  1. Turn the laptop off by holding the power button.
  2. Turn it back on. As soon as you see the HP logo, immediately hold the power button again to interrupt the boot.
  3. Repeat this 3 times.
  4. On the 4th attempt, Windows will enter Automatic Repair.

From there:

  • Go to Advanced options → Troubleshoot → Startup Repair.

This can fix update-related file issues.

4. Disconnect External Devices

Remove anything plugged into the laptop (USB drive, mouse, keyboard, printer, HDMI).
Sometimes updates hang because of connected peripherals.

5. Boot Into Safe Mode

If it still loops:

  1. From the recovery menu, go to Advanced Options → Startup Settings → Restart.
  2. Press 4 or F4 for Safe Mode.
  3. After logging in, restart normally.
This often forces Windows to complete (or undo) the update.

I hope this helps.
