Windows startup isn't working properly, I've been getting a blue screen and hp support and recovery manager has popped up. I'm trying to back up jpeg images onto a USB drive, however, it says I need to convert to NTFS files. How do I back up my photos?

@Poppy16

There are two different issues at work here.

First, there are different filesystems and the one used most often in Windows are NTFS and FAT.  Your Windows filesystem is almost certainly formatted NTFS, but your USB stick probably is not.

So, do the following:

1) Insert the USB stick into the PC

2) Open File Manager (little yellow file folder icon with the blue on it)

3) Find the USB stick -- it will be an icon showing under Devices and drives

4) Right-c lick on the USB stick and select properties -- it should have a Type of USB drive and the File system will tell you the formatting that was used -- it will likely say FAT or FAT32.

5) If it does NOT say NTFS, close that window, right-click on the USB stick again, select Format, and then select NTFS. Format option: quick format

6) Click the Start button -- it will take a few seconds to complete -- and it will tell you when done.

7) When done, close the format window.

The second issue is the format of the files.  For a file, select it File Manager, right-click and select Properties.  Type of file should say JPG file (.jpg). IF it does not recognize the file type, that means where you got the file formatted it incorrectly.

You should now be able to drag-and-drop files onto the USB stick.
