HP Pavilion Aero 13 Laptop PC 13-be2000 (767P2AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello everybody,

my HP Pavilion Aero Laptop 13 is only showing a black screen and I can't even see a UEFI / BIOS post message anymore.

The only thing that seems to turn on is the fan. Thus my device seems broken :/. Capslock LED isn't working nor blinking.

So what happened? I attempted to update my UEFI / BIOS using the sp152744.exe from support.hp.com. I hoped "F.20 Rev.A" would fix the horrible battery life of my Aero 13.

I then read a guide, also somewhere on HP, to create a usb recovery usb drive (also using the sp152744.exe).

I needed a second computer with Windows to create this usb bios recovery drive.

I pressed "win+b" and the power button at the same time, but it wouldn't recover the UEFI from my thumbdrive.

I tested this "win+b" without the thumbdrive, then there appears a message that instructs me to create a bios usb recovery drive.

Is there any other way to handle this? My Aero 13 is still under warranty, but no idea if that is still valid, now that I attempted to update its UEFI.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @schipplock,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Pavilion Aero 13 encountered a serious issue during the UEFI/BIOS update process, which can sometimes happen if something goes wrong with the update or if there’s a power interruption. Here’s what you can try next.

Attempt BIOS Recovery

HP laptops usually have a BIOS recovery process you can try. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

1. Prepare a BIOS Recovery USB Drive:

  • Download the latest BIOS update (the .exe file) from the HP Support website for your specific laptop model.
  • Use a working computer to create a BIOS recovery USB drive following the guide you mentioned, which involves using the .exe file.

2. Perform the Recovery:

  • Insert the USB recovery drive into your Aero 13.
  • Press and hold the Windows key and B key simultaneously.
  • While holding these keys, press the Power button. Continue holding the keys until the HP BIOS Update screen appears or you see any activity on the screen.

If the screen remains black and there is no change, the recovery might not be working due to the severity of the issue.

Try Hard Reset

Sometimes a hard reset can help:

  • Disconnect any external devices.
  • Press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds to force a power off.
  • Wait a few seconds and then press the Power button again to turn it on.

Check for Physical Issues

Ensure that the laptop's components (like RAM or SSD) are properly seated. Sometimes reseating components can resolve startup issues, though this can be a bit tricky if you’re not familiar with the internal hardware.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Just imagine someone not reading your text. I just checked if the soldered on ram is seated properly. It is seated properly. Uefi recovery isn't working, but I might have had an hallucination and thought I already mentioned that :). I also did the 15 seconds power cycle. To my total surprise nothing changed.

I initially bought an extended warranty for this device, but I'm doing HP and me a favour now: dumping this device.

I've got no more time to waste on your telephone line, whatsapp ai support or this ai driven community.

Thanks for your time (if you are real), but your answer has no value for me.
