Hi,
I have Windows 10 Home pre-installed by HP on my laptop. I wish to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro. Given that the product key for Home is stored in the BOIS can I just purchase a product key for Pro and upgrade through Settings/System/About/Change the Product Key or upgrade your version of Windows, without issue? Does this automatically change the product key within the BIOS?
Thanks
Regards.
Andrew

Actually between you and Microsoft, not HP because HP does not own Windows. But re-activate using Windows 10 Pro product key should work otherwise you have to contact Microsoft, they are very helpful with this kind of work.
Regards.

Hi, @Anstonian
Upgrading to W10 Pro from W10 Home will not change the W10 OEM product key in the BIOS.
If you ever have to clean reinstall W10 Pro, you will get W10 Home, and you will need to change the product key in the PC settings menu to W10 Pro.
Here are the only two ways you can upgrade from Home to Pro...
Upgrade using your digital licence for W10 pro
To upgrade, select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & Security > Activation .
Open Activation settings
If you have a digital license for Windows 10 Pro, and Windows 10 Home is currently activated on your device, you'll see one of two messages when you select Go to Microsoft Store:
If you see Install, select the button to install Windows 10 Pro.
If you see Buy, you may need to purchase a Windows 10 Pro license. Or, try to sign in to Microsoft Store with the Microsoft account that was used to purchase the Pro license. Then, follow the instructions to install Windows 10.
If you have a digital license for Windows 10 Pro, but Windows 10 Home isn't activated on your device, select Troubleshoot and then follow the instructions to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.
Select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & Security > Activation .
Select Change product key, and then enter the 25-character Windows 10 Pro product key.
Select Next to start the upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.
