Our two 3.0 USB ports suddenly quit working (worked fine yesterday). The USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller shows a yellow alert triangle in the Device Manager. When troubleshooted and requested to fix the problem, we received "Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware (Code 37)". BIOS is current and Windows shows no updates for this problem. We tried restoring Windows from a previous restore point but the problem was still not corrected. Cannot find any additional instructions on how to correct this problem. The only USB port currently working is the 2.0. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the offer to help. After spending many hours working with Microsoft support on 6/18/20, it has been fixed. It was determined that the original controller (AMD USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller 1.0 [Microsoft]) was collapsing and our HP laptop installed the USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller in its place. We're still not sure why we weren't able to update the original controller. Unfortunately, the controller our laptop installed was not compatible with the version of Windows 10 currently running on our laptop. Microsoft initiated an upgrade of our Windows 10 and all is right in the world again!
Thank you again for your offer of help.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details and I would appreciate if you could, perhaps elaborate on your concern.
- What is the exact model for your computer?
- Have you tested multiple devices on the USB port?
- Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
Look forward to hearing from you and you have a great day!
Take care.
Cheers!
