Hi @Ishwar_Hiremath,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
If you're experiencing a "USB access denied" issue while copying and pasting data into a pen drive on your HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-Eg2000 (4U8D6AV), there are several potential causes and solutions to consider. Here are detailed steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
Troubleshooting Steps:
Check USB Drive Permissions:
- Right-click on the USB drive in File Explorer and select Properties.
- Go to the Security tab.
- Check the permissions for your user account and make sure you have Write permissions.
- If permissions are not set correctly, click Edit and modify the permissions.
Run as Administrator:
- Try running File Explorer with administrative privileges.
- Right-click on the File Explorer icon and select Run as administrator.
- Then try copying and pasting the data again.
Check for Write Protection:
- Ensure the USB drive is not write-protected.
- Some USB drives have a physical switch that enables write protection. Check if your USB drive has such a switch and ensure it is set to allow writing.
Scan for Errors:
- Right-click on the USB drive and select Properties.
- Go to the Tools tab and click on Check under Error-checking.
- Follow the prompts to scan and fix any errors on the USB drive.
Disable Controlled Folder Access:
- Controlled Folder Access in Windows Defender can sometimes block access to USB drives.
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & Threat Protection > Manage ransomware protection.
- Turn off Controlled folder access and try copying the data again.
Kindly find the next set of steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Ishwar_Hiremath,
Please find the next set of steps below.
Check Group Policy Settings:
- Open Run by pressing Windows + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
- Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Removable Storage Access.
- Ensure that all settings under Removable Storage Access are set to Not Configured or Disabled.
Reformat the USB Drive:
- Backup any important data on the USB drive.
- Right-click on the USB drive in File Explorer and select Format.
- Choose the file system (NTFS, exFAT, or FAT32) and perform a quick format.
- Try copying and pasting the data again after formatting.
Update USB Drivers:
- Go to Device Manager by pressing Windows + X and selecting Device Manager.
- Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click on your USB drive and select Update driver.
- Follow the prompts to search for updated drivers.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Check for updates and install any available updates.
Test with Another USB Drive:
- Try using a different USB drive to see if the issue is specific to the current USB drive.
Test on Another PC:
- Plug the USB drive into another computer to see if the issue persists.
If the problem persists after trying these steps, it may be a hardware issue or a deeper system configuration problem. Contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.
