I am experiencing an issue with the COM ports on my HP laptop. The ports do not show up in Device Manager initially, so I attempted to manually add the COM ports by using the "Add Legacy Hardware" option. However, after adding the ports, I encountered Error Code 34.
The exact error message is: "Windows cannot determine the settings for this device. Consult the documentation that came with this device and use the Resource tab to set the configuration. (Code 34)"
Steps I have taken so far:
- Add Legacy Hardware: Since the COM ports did not appear initially, I used the "Add Legacy Hardware" option in Device Manager to manually add them.
- Driver Installation: After adding the ports, I tried updating the drivers, but I encountered the Code 34 error during this process.
- Manual Configuration: I attempted to manually configure the resources using the Resource tab, but the settings are unclear, and the issue persists.
Additional Information:
- I am using an HP laptop HP Spectre x360 2-in-1 Laptop 16-f1xxx
- The operating system installed is 23H2
What I Need Help With:
- I need assistance in resolving this Code 34 error and getting my COM ports to work correctly.
- If possible, I would appreciate guidance on correctly configuring the ports or any alternative methods to resolve this issue.
Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Please PHYSICALLY add hardware to your machine using USB to COM port adapter, for example
Note: I used to have 3 of them on my bag pack because they (in my case: IBM, CISCO and Thales) are not the same. Now they all use network connections.
Regards.
