Microsoft Windows 11

Laptop decided to have issues and will no longer boot.  I have tried several times to get the system to recover.  I have tried a new SDD and replaced memory modules.    Recovery USB created several times.  I am getting a screen with Recovery Manager - Application Close [Info] no HDD.   Is there anything I can do with this laptop or should I just start saving for a new one.

@TomGriego, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Recovery Manager Error and Boot Issues!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your laptop where it is unable to boot or recover using the Recovery Manager, especially when seeing the "no HDD" error. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and possibly resolve this issue:

1. Check BIOS Settings:

First, ensure that your new SSD is properly recognized by the system BIOS.

  1. Restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings by pressing the appropriate key (usually F2, F10, ESC, or DEL) during startup.
  2. Check if the SSD is listed as a recognized storage device.
  3. Ensure that the drive is set as the primary boot device.

2. Securely Connect the SSD:

Make sure the SSD is properly connected to the motherboard by:

  1. Re-seating the SSD into its slot or bay.
  2. Confirming that all connectors and cables are securely fastened.

3. Use HP Recovery Media:

If you've created a Recovery USB drive using the HP Recovery Manager, use it to attempt a system recovery:

  1. Insert the Recovery USB into the laptop.
  2. Restart the computer.
  3. Access the boot menu (usually F9) during startup.
  4. Select the USB drive as the boot option.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to initiate the recovery process.

4. Confirm Recovery Media Integrity:

Sometimes, the Recovery USB drive might not have been created correctly. If possible, you might want to recreate the recovery media using a different USB drive.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
