HP Pavilion x360 - 15-cr0079nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The Hard drive died on my HP x360 Convertible laptop.  Has a 16GB ssd drive for recovery purpose.  I purchased a 500GB NVMe SSD to replace the 16GB to allow faster boot.  Do not have any hard drive installed yet.

Boot from a USB CD drive using a Windows 10 64 Bit DVD.

Boots fine and goes to the option to select the drive, but says nothing shows?

Booted from a UEFI bootable USB stick with Hirens 15.2 Boot option.

Loaded the Windows 10 setup from the CD and it was able to see the SSD drive to install windows on.

Windows showed it went through the process of installing the OS, but on reboot nothing happens. Continuously reboots.

Booted from USB stick again with Hirens and the SSD drive shows up as C:\ with the OS installed.

But reboot the laptop (without USB stick or CD hooked up), and just reboots like it cant see the SSD drive??

Its specs

It actually has  Optane: 16 GB PCIe® NVMe™ Intel® Optane™ Memory for storage acceleration. Now you use this slot for a normal M.2 SSD. Your system now is on limbo. You should

  • replace faulty HDD first,
  • rebuild relationship Optane and HDD,
  • Disable relationship properly,
  • Replace Optane with a new M.2 NVMe SSD

Thanks for a quick reply on this, however:

I downloaded the manual for this laptop (actually have 2 of the same)

Nowhere does it say anything about how to:

  • rebuild rrelationship with Optane and HDD
  • Disable relationship properly

On the laptop that is working,  I don't see any option to Disable it

Found one post that talked about disable in BIOS, but don't see this option on either?

I used to work on laptops and can't figure out how a relationship between boot drive and Optane that are no longer in the system would keep it from booting unless it was a setting in the BIOS

Do you have a link showing setup of Optane?
