I am unable to find a recovery option for a Chromebook 14A G5 in the Recovery Extension Tool Add-On in Chrome. I would like to update this Chromebook past v100 using a Recovery USB.

Hi @MikeAtLAUSD,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To recover and update your HP Chromebook 14A G5 beyond version 100, you can follow these steps.
Confirm Model Selection: The Chromebook Recovery Utility in Chrome may sometimes not list specific model names, so ensure you’re using the correct model number for your HP Chromebook 14A G5. You can often find the right recovery image by matching the model number or code name listed under the Chromebook Recovery Utility options.
Use the Recovery Utility:
- Install the Chromebook Recovery Utility from the Chrome Web Store if you haven't already.
- Open the utility and select Get Started.
- Choose Select a model from a list if your specific model isn't automatically listed.
- For Manufacturer, choose "HP" or "Google Chrome OS" (depending on how it’s categorized in the tool).
- In Product, scroll to find your specific model. If it's not listed directly, try using HP Chromebook 14 as the closest available match.
Download the Recovery Image:
- Once you locate the model or a compatible option, insert your USB drive (8GB or larger).
- Follow the prompts to download and create the recovery USB. This will download the latest available Chrome OS version compatible with your device.
Recover Chromebook:
- Turn off your Chromebook.
- Insert the recovery USB into the Chromebook.
- Enter Recovery Mode by pressing Esc + Refresh + Power.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the recovery, which will update the device to the latest available Chrome OS version for your Chromebook.
Automatic Updates:
- After recovery, your Chromebook should check for the latest updates automatically. If it doesn’t, you can manually check by going to Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for Updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
