Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Laptop which will not boot, I believe it to be a corrupt BIOS, however, if I try to Rollback it tells me it is going to go from version F.64 to F.42, then it fails saying "Unable to open BIOS Signature file."

If I download ANY BIOS updates from the HP site onto a USB and use this to try to update the BIOS that way, regardless of booting with F2 & entering Firmwate Management or by using Win+B to go directly into the BIOS update, I get the same error, in fact everything I try says "Unable to open BIOS Signature file.".

I have read a lot of posts in various places saying that HP have made it impossible to install a Previous version of the BIOS, and if this is the case, then this may be my problem. The latest BIOS version for this device on their website is F.63, but accourding to the BIOS Management, the current version is F.64 ... how the hell is that possible ?!?

Any help and advice gratefully received, this is driving me nuts !!!

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,
I appreciate your efforts and I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  • Firstly, remove the hard drive from the computer.
  • Once the hard drive is removed, turn on the computer without the hard drive- While booting as the computer doesn’t detect a hard drive, so it’ll automatically roll back to the previous BIOS.
  • Put the HDD back in and turn it ON. It might give an error about the improper shutdown. Just click continue and it should boot to windows.

If you still need additional technical assistance that can be better provided through one-on-one interaction or a remote session with our HP Support team if you would like to continue troubleshooting. HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
