Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello everyone,

I woke up today to a non-working fingerprint logon laptop. The only available option is to login by PIN.

The fingerprint driver works normally and has been uninstalled and reinstalled for good measure.

The related biometrics services in windows have been stopped and restarted, to no avail.

When I try to register a fingerprint, the system requires a PIN first, then opens the registration window, but the reader won't work, even though the device manager says the device works properly.

The only explanation I have is that a recent update KB4580364 may have created issues. Yet, the system won't let me uninstall this update, nor will it allow me to use system restore to a previous point.

Can you think of anything I can try to solve the issue, without having to reinstall the system?

Thank you.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the fingerprint login is not working on the computer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you uninstall the fingerprint driver from the device manager and then download and install it from the below link and test.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp105501-106000/sp105507.exe

Here is how it is done.

  1. Type "Device Manager" into the search field to open the device manager console.
  2. Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
  3. On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
  4. When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.

NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.

If you continue facing the issue, set up the Windows Hello feature again follow the below steps.

NOTE: Remove all the saved fingerprints before performing the below steps.

  1. Select the Start. button.
  2. Select Settings > Accounts.
  3. Click Sign-in options on the left. ...
  4. Click Get started.
  5. Enter your PIN.
  6. Scan your finger on the fingerprint reader. ...
  7. Click Add Another to repeat the process with another finger, or close the program.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
