Hi @Nortex,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP notebook is locked to an old administrator Microsoft account that you no longer have access to, and even a factory reset did not remove it. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and how you can regain access using supported Windows methods.

Confirm whether the device is enrolled in Windows device protection

If the old Microsoft account still appears after a reset, the device may be linked to that account through Windows device registration.

This is why Windows keeps asking for the old PIN or password.

Use Windows Recovery to reset the device again (clean reset)

Power on the notebook and interrupt startup three times (hold power button when Windows starts loading).

On the fourth start, you should see Preparing Automatic Repair.

Select Troubleshoot → Reset this PC → Remove everything.

When asked how to reinstall Windows, choose Cloud download if available.

This removes local accounts and reinstalls Windows fresh.

Disconnect from the internet during first setup

During the initial Windows setup after reset, do not connect to Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

This forces Windows to allow creation of a new local administrator account first.

After setup is complete, you can then sign in with your new Microsoft account.

Check if BitLocker or device encryption is blocking access

If Windows asks for a BitLocker recovery key, it means the device is encrypted.

That key is tied to the original Microsoft account.

Without the recovery key, the only option is a full reset with data removal (no data recovery).

Verify the device is not in S mode or managed

If the notebook was ever used for work, school, or organization use, it may be MDM-managed.

Managed devices will re-lock to the original administrator account after reset.

In this case, only removing the device from that old Microsoft account will release it.

Create a bootable Windows installer (alternative reset)

On another computer, create a Windows USB installation media.

Boot your HP notebook from the USB (Esc → F9 for Boot Menu).

Choose Custom installation and delete all existing partitions.

Install Windows fresh, then create a new account during setup.

I hope this helps.
