HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-dw1000 (1W798AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello everybody,

I faced several issues with my Pavilion x360 convertible lately. it fails to start: literally. When I press the power button, the led turns on, the turns off after 5 seconds, and this process repeats. No CapsLock blinking, no fans, no screen light, no nothing. I tried hard resetting, and it didn't help. Also I had an attempt at BIOS resetting, but when I pressed power+windows+v nothing happened. Also windows+b after "powering on" changes nothing. I've read that Pavilions sometimes have broken power buttons, and I think this might be the case, but Im not sure. I also have dual boot with Linux, and booted from a flash drive once recently, and sometimes I had similar issues, but I managed to solve them just by trying again. Basically I figured out that this model "doesn't like" when I boot from some USB drive, or turn off the AC and boot into the OS. Maybe someone has any ideas on this topic?

Kind regards,

Daniil

Hi @NatanoL,

\Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

It sounds like your HP Pavilion x360 convertible might be experiencing a power-on issue that could be related to several potential causes. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to try and resolve the situation:

Verify External Power Source

  • Ensure that the laptop is connected to a working power outlet.
  • Confirm the AC adapter and power cord are in good condition (no physical damage).

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the computer.
  • Disconnect the computer from a port replicator or docking station, if applicable.
  • Unplug the AC adapter, remove the battery if it's removable, and unplug any connected peripheral devices.
  • Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to drain any residual power.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter back, but do not connect any peripheral devices.
  • Press the power button to attempt to turn on the laptop.

Reseat Components

  • Sometimes reseating the memory modules or battery (if removable) can help.
  • Make sure that all internal and external connections are secure.

Check Diagnostic Lights and Sounds

  • Look for any diagnostic lights on the laptop. Although you mentioned no Caps Lock blinking, other lights might provide diagnostic information.
  • Try pressing the power button again and listen for any potential sounds (like beeps).

Test with Minimum Configuration

  • Remove any additional peripherals, drives, or add-on cards to test if the issue might be caused by a specific component.
  • Keep only essential components like the CPU, a single RAM stick, and the display panel connected.

Update BIOS via USB

  • If the laptop can enter BIOS, try updating it to the latest version using a USB drive. Instructions for updating the BIOS via USB are typically provided on HP's support site for your model.

Take care and have an amazing day!
